Sometimes, inspiration comes from the most unexpected places.
As a jewellery designer and maker, I have always been fascinated by form, texture and the relationship between materials. Inspiration doesn’t always begin with something traditionally beautiful. Sometimes, it begins with an ordinary object, a small mechanical detail or something we encounter in everyday life.
The inspiration behind The Wrap Collection came from something surprisingly simple: a spring.
Finding Beauty in Everyday Objects
The idea began when I noticed the small metal spring inside the battery compartment of one of my children’s toys.
It’s a tiny component, easily overlooked, yet it serves an important purpose. The spring maintains contact between the battery and the electrical connection, helping the toy function.
I began thinking about the shape of the spring, the way the metal coils around itself and how something so small could create such an important connection.
I was particularly drawn to its repeated lines, movement and structure.
As a jewellery maker, I started imagining how this familiar mechanical form could be interpreted in precious metal.
What if the spring became a decorative feature? What if its structure could be transformed into something elegant, wearable and meaningful?
That simple observation became the starting point for The Wrap Collection.
The Connection Between Gemstone and Wearer
As the designs developed, I began exploring another idea: the relationship between gemstones and the people who wear them.
Throughout history, gemstones have been associated with different meanings, emotions and symbolic qualities.
Garnet, for example, has traditionally been associated with passion and vitality, while opal has often been connected with creativity and individuality.
Although these associations are rooted in cultural traditions and personal beliefs rather than scientific evidence, I find the stories surrounding gemstones fascinating.
This led me to imagine the wrapping detail as something more than decoration.
Inspired by the function of a spring, the metal wrapping could symbolically represent a connection between the gemstone and the person wearing it.
Just as a spring helps maintain an electrical connection, the wrapping in my designs represents a visual link between the stone and its wearer.
Not as a literal transfer of energy, but as an artistic expression of connection, individuality and personal meaning.
Translating Inspiration into Jewellery
The challenge was to take an industrial-inspired form and reinterpret it through traditional jewellery-making techniques.
I wanted the wrapping detail to feel intentional and refined, complementing the gemstone rather than overwhelming it.
Each design explores the relationship between the smooth surface of a gemstone and the repeated lines of the surrounding metal.
The wrapping introduces texture, rhythm and movement, while the gemstone remains the focal point.
Working with sterling silver and gold allows me to explore different interpretations of the design, from subtle decorative accents to more distinctive statement pieces.
The result is a collection that brings together mechanical inspiration, natural gemstones and contemporary jewellery craftsmanship.
Celebrating the Individuality of Gemstones
Natural gemstones play an important role in The Wrap Collection.
I am particularly drawn to their unique colours, inclusions, shapes and patterns.
From the deep red of garnet to the mysterious darkness of black onyx and the shifting colours of opal, each gemstone brings its own character to a design.
Rather than forcing every stone into an identical appearance, I enjoy allowing its natural qualities to influence the finished piece.
The wrapping detail creates a recognisable design language across the collection while allowing each gemstone to retain its individuality.
Jewellery with a Personal Connection
For me, jewellery is not simply about decoration.
A piece of jewellery can represent a memory, an emotion, a milestone or something deeply personal to the wearer.
The Wrap Collection explores this idea through its distinctive metal detailing and carefully selected gemstones.
What began as an observation of a tiny spring inside a child’s toy has developed into a collection centred on connection, craftsmanship and individuality.
It is a reminder that inspiration can be found in the smallest details of everyday life.
And sometimes, the most unexpected objects can lead to something beautiful.
The Journey of The Wrap Collection
The Wrap Collection is an evolving exploration of form, texture and gemstone setting.
As I continue developing the designs, I look forward to experimenting with different gemstones, precious metals and variations of the wrapping detail.
Each new piece is an opportunity to refine the design and explore new possibilities.
My hope is that those who wear The Wrap Collection will appreciate not only its appearance but also the story and thought behind its creation.
The Wrap Collection — inspired by connection, shaped by craftsmanship, made to be treasured.
